Cure Sweet Cravings With Gourmet Biscotti

By Lisa Williamson

The coffee craze is still going strong many years after franchise and independent coffee shops have seemed to pop up everywhere. For those who do not know, these places serve a wide variety of beverages that range from teas to blended drinks that can be enjoyed by all ages. Many customers like to have gourmet biscotti to accompany these beverages.

Many shops and bakeries offer a wide variety of flavors from which to choose. They come in miniature or large sizes or the texture may be dense of slightly brittle. Popular flavors are vanilla, hazelnut and chocolate but some places serve unusual flavors that combine nuts and sauces that are mixed in or topped for decoration.

Although many coffee shops have quality bakery items, these can be fattening as they are made with cream, butter, and lots of sugar. While biscotti have some sugar, they are generally lower in fat and calories than a regular size muffin or slice of cheesecake. This makes it ideal for those who are trying to watch their waistline or just want something to dip in their coffee without a lot of mess.

These treats also lend themselves well to other hot and cold drinks besides coffee. Teas, hot chocolate, or special blended drinks are also good companions, as these treats do not cancel out the taste of the beverage. Even light herbal teas are complemented with biscotti and there is no loss in flavor.

Anyone that buys a single biscotti on a daily basis may find that the costs add up over time. Some who like to bake may want to play around with a recipe or two but there are many merchants that sell these by the box online and some specialty stores. In many cases, this costs a lot less than buying from a retailer that serves fresh coffee.

Buying a box not only saves money but also it allows one to have as many varieties at their convenience. Having coffee at home sometimes has its advantages like not having to drive or walk. Biscotti are also a great way to entertain those who may stop to socialize while having coffee or tea. It is becoming a popular choice because of the low amounts of fat and sugar, which can give some a heavy feeling.

Some sellers like to create exotic biscotti flavors that contain flavors like anise, clove, or licorice. Others like to sell flavors inspired by popular desserts like apple pie, red velvet cake, or turtle candies. Sometimes the franchise operations may try these for a time but they often sell universal flavors like chocolate, hazelnut, or vanilla.

Having a box within reach is also great for times when a person has a sweet craving. Often, these are individually wrapped so they are great when traveling or as a treat for kids that is not loaded down with sugar. Not just limited to coffee or tea drinking, this tasty treat is becoming popular as people enjoy the many flavors on the market.
